Grand Bayou Reservoir Slot Limit

Aug 01, 2006  There are still 18 -20 pound sacks being caught. However, I do feel like Grand Bayou could be devastated with a 7 foot drop. The lake will be reduced to basically a 13 foot deep channel making the big girls easy pickings. I dont think off limits is too much to ask. We really need to pressure the right person to make this a reality. Poverty Point Reservoir 15 to 19 in. ♥ 8/day Only 1 over 19 in. Lakes Chicot, Cross, Vernon, 14 to 17 in. 8/day Rodemacher, Black Bayou Only 4 over 17 in.♥ (Bossier), and John K. Kelly- Grand Bayou Reservoir All other areas None 10/day Crappie None 50/day Poverty Point Reservoir None 25/day. Size Limit: Daily Creel Limit: All state waters EXCEPT as follows: None. Eagle Lake: 16” MLL. Poverty Point Reservoir: 15-19” protected SL2. No more than one over 19” total length. False River (Pointe Coupee Parish) 14” MLL. Kelly-Grand Bayou Reservoir (Red River Parish) 14-17” protected SL2.

Grand bayou reservoir slot limit 2017
Bass slot limits removed on six Louisiana lakesPosted by wickowick on 1/14/14 at 4:29 pm

Inland fisheries biologist Mike Wood told the commission that the slot limits on the lakes have proven ineffective because of the catch-and-release culture that exists among bass anglers.
'With the slot limits, anglers were encouraged to harvest fish under the (slot) length range, which would produce larger fish,' Wood said. 'Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Anglers in their best efforts for conservation had a much higher tendency for catch and release. They weren't managing the fishery as we'd hoped.'
Removing the smaller fish would have reduced competition and allowed fish to grow more rapidly through the slot, Wood explained.
Since the regulation was ineffective, the department recommended slot limits be removed on Chicot Lake, Cross Lake, Vernon Lake, CLECO Lake (a.k.a. Lake Rodemacher), Spanish Lake and Black Bayou (Benton).

Slot limits remain in effect on Caddo Lake, Poverty Point Reservoir, Caney Creek Lake and Grand Bayou. For specific bass regulations on those and other waterbodies,

He can't say this about D'Arbonne every 3yrs they drain it and the fish get murdered. I wish we had a 15' minimum.

Yoyos are playing a big role in the depletion of fish...

I don' think the slot will officially be removed from these lakes until 100 days after January 9th (April 19th or so).
Looking forward to the removal on Cross and Black Bayou, it's going to make both of these lakes a lot more tournament friendly.

The water came back up, but it's muddy as hell. I hear of people catching some fish, but I always find a reason to go with someone else.
